Prime Minister Andy Burnham has announced a new National Centre for Information Defence, tasked with detecting, attributing and “disrupting” hostile-state information attacks. He also complained that Britain had given too much ground to people spreading a “negative, corrosive narrative about life in Britain.”

Britain’s previous attempts at controlling the information battlefield were insufficient.

There was the Rapid Response Unit, created in 2018 to monitor media and social-media trends, the Counter Disinformation Unit, the National Security Online Information Team.

This development now culminates with the National Centre for Information Defence.

Sources inside Whitehall say Tommy Robinson is being considered to head the new Bureau, on the grounds that he has spent years producing exactly the kind of content the agency intended to monitor.

After years of monitoring narratives, flagging misinformation and defending citizens from dangerous facts and opinions, the government is finally ready to simply show people the reality.

Perhaps Tommy gets the office.
