Europe Shocked As Gonorrhoea And Syphilis Make Huge 1940s Style Comeback

According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, gonorrhoea cases have skyrocketed more than 300% since 2015, while syphilis cases have more than doubled. Spain is apparently hosting its own private STI revival festival with over 37,000 gonorrhoea diagnoses alone.

Both have been treatable with antibiotics for decades, which makes the comeback less “medical mystery” and more “how are we still doing this?”

Health officials say the reasons include less condom use, more casual sex, dating apps, fewer people getting tested, and strange gaps in prevention services.

Officials were also very eager to stress that this entirely coincidental surge has absolutely nothing to do with differing cultural values of some groups around sex education and personal responsibility. Nothing at all.

Meanwhile Toulouse-Lautrec, who turned syphilis and the Moulin Rouge into high art before it killed him at 37, is looking down and slow-clapping this 21st-century encore.

The bacteria, for their part, are reportedly over the moon and already planning a summer tour.
